Fishing in Devon

If you fancy catching your own dinner then you're in luck. Boat fishing or shore fishing, you'll find it all in South Devon.

Honestly, it was this big!

Life on the water in South Devon thrives whatever the weather, and both sea and river fishing are very popular locally all year round. The backdrop of this spectacular coastline – rugged and sheltered in equal measures – will add that special something to your fishing trip.

Bantham, Bigbury, Mothecombe and Challaborough are all popular fishing spots very close to Thatches and there’s a huge variety of fish to be had. The breakwater at Brixham is great for mackerel and bass. To make the most of these idyllic locations, head out at sunrise or sunset to dodge the seasonal crowds and guarantee yourself a parking spot!

Where you can fish

Enjoy all the fun things to do outdoors and discover fishing in the South West. We have some beautiful places along our coastline, which include Dartmouth, Salcombe Hope Cove, Kingsbridge, the river Avon at Aveton Gifford and many more to explore if you have the time. You may want to be more adventurous and try deep-sea fishing from Salombce, Dartmouth and Plymouth or just have a lazy day siting by one of the many lakes close by to us.

A great opportunity to tell everyone a few tall tales to family and friends!

Equipment and bait

We are here to help you make the best of your holiday. Our Thatches team has great relationships with the local community and businesses in the area, and we often get preferential rates and discounts. We’d be happy to point you in the direction of the best local fishing spots and bait shops. And if you fancy an organised fishing trip, call into reception and we can help you plan your day out.
